MIRRI-ERIC Announces New Job Opportunity for the MALDIBANK Project
2025, Dec 22
The Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium (MIRRI-ERIC) is pleased to announce a new Science Officer (Microbiologist) position within the Horizon Europe-funded MALDIBANK project.
This full-time position will be based at MIRRI-ERIC Headquarters in Braga, Portugal, with the possibility of hybrid work arrangements. The contract is for an uncertain term, funded under the Horizon Europe project MALDIBANK, with an expected starting date from February 2026.
MALDIBANK is a pioneering global initiative addressing key microbial challenges in health, food security, and environmental sustainability. As a cloud-based, open MALDI spectra databank, MALDIBANK enables microorganism identification through advanced AI-driven analysis, while fully supporting Open Science and FAIR data principles.
The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting the scientific and operational activities of the MALDIBANK consortium, with a particular focus on microbial characterisation, data harmonisation, and collaborative project coordination.
Role and Responsibilities
The Science Officer (Microbiologist) will contribute to both scientific excellence and strategic coordination by:
- Providing scientific and technical support across MALDIBANK work packages;
- Enhancing synergies between consortium partners and optimising project deliverables;
- Supporting the preparation and management of European and international research projects;
- Coordinating internal communication and harmonising scientific procedures;
- Contributing to technical reports, scientific publications, and project deliverables;
- Representing and disseminating MALDIBANK at scientific meetings and stakeholder events.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Microbiology or a closely related discipline and demonstrate fluency in English. Postdoctoral experience, a strong publication record, and participation in international collaborative projects (e.g. Horizon Europe, H2020) are considered strong assets. Familiarity with microbial databases, data standards, and bioinformatics tools is also desirable.
Application Process
The position remains open until a suitable candidate is recruited, with applications evaluated on a rolling basis starting 15 January. All the details on the position can be seen on the Euraxess portal or directly in the job description document.
