Microbes-4-Climate kick-off meeting held in MIRRI-ERIC headquarters
2024, Feb 22
Embarking on a dynamic two-day adventure, the Micobres-4-Climate initiative launches with vigour on February 20th and 21st, 2024, in Braga. With 31 partners from 13 countries converging, the project aims to address the pressing challenges posed by global changes to terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystems, with a keen focus on agricultural and forestry systems.
The kick-off meeting, hosted at the MIRRI-ERIC headquarters, sets the stage for a collaborative effort to unravel the mysteries of climate change's impact on microbial communities. Despite their pivotal role in ecosystem resilience, microbes often remain overlooked in the climate change discourse.
Microbes-4-Climate endeavours to rectify this oversight by delving into the intricate interactions between soil, microorganisms, plants, and the environment. Comprising five esteemed Research Infrastructures — MIRRI-ERIC, ELIXIR, AnaEE-ERIC, LifeWatch-ERIC, and EMPHASIS — the consortium boasts a multidisciplinary approach aimed at transcending borders and accelerating progress in environmental science.
Through access to advanced research infrastructures and comprehensive training, the project aims to foster curiosity-driven research while laying the groundwork for practical solutions to enhance climate resilience in agriculture. During the kick-off meeting, representatives from consortium partners, including prominent institutions like the University of Valencia, University of Gent, CNR, and Wageningen University, convened to strategise and align initiatives for the project's success.
As Micobres-4-Climate embarks on its five-year journey, the consortium remains steadfast in its commitment to amplifying invaluable data sharing and advancing environmental science.
