MIRRI-ERIC Welcomes Phagotheque One Health as a New Partner

MIRRI-ERIC is pleased to announce the integration of Phagotheque One Health as a new Partner through the Spanish National Node, MIRRI-ES, further strengthening the European network of microbial domain Biological Resource Centres and specialised collections.

Hosted by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the largest public research institution in Spain and one of the leading scientific organisations in Europe, Phagotheque One Health brings unique expertise and resources in bacteriophages and their application as antimicrobial agents. Through its participation in MIRRI-ERIC, the collection will contribute valuable biological resources and scientific knowledge to support research and innovation addressing some of today's most pressing health and environmental challenges.

Phagotheque One Health is a specialised collection focused on bacteriophages active against undesirable and multidrug-resistant bacteria across diverse environments, including human and veterinary health, agriculture, and natural ecosystems. The collection hosts a broad diversity of bacteriophages targeting multiple bacterial species, together with their corresponding host strains.

Beyond providing access to high-quality biological material, the collection offers extensive associated data that significantly enhance its scientific value. Available information includes genomic sequences, host range data, phage-host interaction profiles, and phage sensitivity information. These resources support fundamental and applied research, therapeutic development, and the biotechnological exploitation of phage-derived proteins such as endolysins.

The collection also facilitates collaborative research by supporting customised screenings, assay development, and joint scientific projects. Its activities contribute to the advancement of phage-based solutions within a One Health framework, recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant, and environmental health.

The integration of Phagotheque One Health further expands MIRRI-ERIC's capacity to provide access to high-quality microbial resources, associated data, and specialised expertise for researchers, innovators, industry, and public institutions across Europe and beyond.
