MIRRI-ERIC Announces a Business Manager Opportunity

MIRRI-ERIC is pleased to announce a new career opportunity for an experienced professional to join its headquarters in Braga, Portugal, as Business Manager within the Horizon Europe project MIRRI-FIRM.
The Business Manager will support the successful implementation of MIRRI-FIRM and work closely with the MIRRI-ERIC Executive Director and project team to strengthen the long-term financial and operational sustainability of MIRRI-ERIC beyond the project.
MIRRI-FIRM is a Horizon Europe project designed to strengthen and expand MIRRI-ERIC as Europe’s reference Research Infrastructure for microbial resources. The project will reinforce MIRRI-ERIC’s operational capacity, governance, services, data interoperability, quality management, engagement with industry, and long-term sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Project Coordinator in financial control, human resources management, risk assessment, and activity and investment planning;
- Developing a business plan and long-term sustainability strategy aligned with MIRRI-ERIC priorities;
- Identifying and developing diversified funding streams to strengthen MIRRI-ERIC’s financial autonomy;
- Supporting the financial and management development of the MIRRI-ERIC services portfolio;
- Contributing to industry engagement activities;
- Supporting the long-term operational and financial sustainability of MIRRI-ERIC.
Applicants should hold a degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or another relevant discipline and have at least 15 years of relevant professional experience in finance and business management. Experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, business operations, and supporting startups, scaleups, or growing organisations is required.
Experience in technology or innovation-driven organisations, sustainable business growth, organisational development, executive management, governance, international teams, and financial and operational processes will be considered an advantage.
The position is based at the MIRRI-ERIC Headquarters in Braga, Portugal, with the possibility of hybrid work within Portugal. The appointment is offered at 40% working time for up to four years, with a planned starting date of 1 November 2026 or earlier.
